Three Golds and a Silver at the UK School Games!

Newham Swords Fencing Club added to its trophy cabinet when U17 National Champion and GB U20 International, Kamal Minott, took double gold for England in the Individual and Team Men’s Foil Events, at the UK School Games. This success follows the gold and silver medals which Minott won at the Junior Commonwealth Fencing Championships, held in July.

The medallists from both the UK School Games and the Commonwealth Championships. These are the names: Left to right - Pierre Harper (Coach), Ciaran Archer (Commonwealth Gold Medallist), Rachel Shaw (Commonwealth Bronze Medallist), Katrina Feklistova (Commonwealth and UK School Games Gold Medallist), Kamal Minott (UK School Games Double Gold Medallist) and Linda Strachan (Swords Club Manager).

International, Katrina Feklistova, who took gold for England in the Women’s Foil Team Event and silver in the Women’s Foil Individual. This follows Feklistova’s gold and silver medals which she won at the Junior Commonwealth Games.

“What an impressive set of results from Kamal and Katrina, following their outstanding performances for England at the Junior Commonwealth Championships”, said Swords Manager, Linda Strachan. “I am particularly impressed with Kamal who has now won a total of three golds and one silver from both the Junior Commonwealths and UK School Games”, added Swords Coach, Pierre Harper.
The results now mean that Newham Swords Fencing Club has won a total of six golds, two silvers and a bronze from both the Commonwealth Championships and UK School Games – an achievement not matched by any other fencing club in the country!
