“Six of the Best” For Newham Swords

Newham Sword’s younger fencers followed in the footsteps of their older team-mates when they took top honours at the Academy Cup and Bristol National Junior Leon Paul Event, both held last weekend.

At the Academy Cup (held last Saturday), Emeliya Lukaite and Aiste Dambrauskaite took gold and silver respectively in the U12 Girls Age Group, whilst team-mate, Benjamin Urzdal also took gold in the U12 Boys.

At the Bristol Premier Series National Junior Event (held on Sunday), England International and reigning English Youth Champion, James Page, took bronze in the U15 Boys whilst Rachel Shaw took bronze in the U15 Girls.

Newham Sword’s sixth and final medal of the weekend came in the U13 Girls Age Group when England International, Alice Campbell, added to the gold medal she won at the Finchley National Junior Leon Paul Event (held last month), by taking silver.

“It’s great to see our younger fencers doing as well as our older fencers. They deserve all the success they are getting, brought about mainly by hard work and commitment shown in their training, as well as a strong will to win”, said Head Coach, Pierre Harper.

Lukaite, Dambrauskaite, Page, Shaw, Urzdal and Campbell are now training hard for the London Youth Games and English Youth Championships, both taking place next month.
