Newham Swords Fencing Club got the season off to a flying start when four of its fencers took a total of three gold medals and one silver, at both the London Age Group Competition and the BSC Junior Men’s Foil Tournament, held last weekend.
At the BSC Junior Men’s Foil Tournament, which is a qualifier for the first junior men’s international of the season, Newham Swords dominated the competition by getting four of its boys through to the final eight. GB internationals Rajan Rai, Kamal Minott and Michael Koudou were placed 5th, 6th and 8th respectively whilst team-mates and GB internationals, George Bailey and Jai Birch took gold and silver.
These results now mean that all five boys have been selected for the junior men’s foil World Cup, taking place in Poland next month. The results also mean that Birch takes over the number one spot in the Junior Men’s Foil Rankings whilst Rai, Minott and Koudou are currently ranked 2nd, 4th and 9th respectively.
“These are fantastic results for our boys and thoroughly deserved following all of their hard work over the summer”, said Head Coach, Pierre Harper.
