Four Swords fencers collected a total of six medals between them (in five of the six categories),

when they fenced for England at the Cadet and Junior Commonwealth Games, held in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Sword’s first medal from these Championships came from GB U17
International, Rachel Shaw,
when she won bronze for England in the Individual Cadet Girls Foil Category.
The Sword’s second medal was won by GB U20 International, Kamal Minott,

when he took silver for England after narrowly losing 15-14 in the final of the Individual Junior Boys Foil. Katrina
Feklistova took Newham Sword’s third medal of the Championships when she gained bronze for England in the Individual U20 Girls Foil.
Newham Sword’s other three medals all came from the Team Events, in which Kamal Minott and Ciaran Archer each took gold for England in the U20 Men’s Team Foil category, whilst Feklistova took silver for England in the U20 Women’s Team Foil.
“What an unbelievable set of results from our top
fencers, who managed to gain a medal in five of the six categories at these Championships. Praise must also be given to GB U17 International, Alice Campbell, who, although not able to secure a medal for Swords this time

round as she was unlucky to draw team-mate Shaw in the last 16 stage of
the Individual Cadet Girls Foil”, said Swords Head Coach, Pierre Harper.
“This was the first appearance at the Cadet and Junior Commonwealth Games for all five Newham Swords fencers, making the results achieved all the more amazing”, added Club Manager, Linda Strachan.
