The Swords ended their fencing season as they had begun it – with plenty of gold medals. A total of eight Newham Swords fencers got nine medals between them in seven categories, when they competed in the Sports Dock National Junior Leon Paul Tournament, held last weekend.
In the U17 Boys and Girls Age Group, GB U17 Internationals, Kamal Minott and Katrina Feklistova each took gold as expected. This was equalled by club mate, and fellow U17 International, Rachel Shaw, in the U15 Girls.
In the U13 Categories, Emilija Lukaite took the Swords fourth medal when gaining silver, whilst team-mates, Benjamin Urzdal and Jacob Haynes took gold and bronze respectively in the U13 Boys.
It was the same outcome in the U11 Boys when Jacob Haynes and Keir Adeleke took gold and bronze respectively.
The Swords ninth and final medal of the weekend came in the U9 Girls Category when Sophie Tsang took gold in her first ever fencing competition, after less than six months of participation in the sport.
“I am very proud of what our fencers achieved at the weekend, particularly our younger fencers who have worked really hard this season. This marks the end of another successful season for us, in which twelve of our fencers competed for either England or GB, as well as winning numerous cadet and junior events”, said Club Manager, Linda Strachan.
