Alice Takes 2 Gold Medals at UK School Games

Well Done to Newham Swords fencer, Alice Campbell, who took Gold in the Women’s Foil as well as Gold in the Mixed Team Event at the UK School Games in Loughborough!! Pierre and I are so proud of you!!

The UK School games is a four day multi-sport event for the UK’s elite young athletes of school age and took place on 1st August-3rd September 2017

Kamal Minott at 2017 Senior World Championships

Well done to Newham Sword’s “Fencer of the Year”, Kamal Minott, for his efforts in the Men’s Individual Event at the 2017 Senior World Championships, held in Leipzig.

In his first appearance at a Senior Worlds (aged just 20), Kamal was able to win his first DE to get into the L128 before narrowly losing on the last hit (15-14!) to advance to the L64 of the Men’s Individual Event.

Kamal and Head Coach, Pierre Harper, will now prepare for the Team Event alongside GB fencers, James Davies, Marcus Mepstead and Ben Peggs.

Three Golds and Two Silvers at Newham Junior Series Event 3

Newham Swords collected a total of three trophies and two silver medals at last month’s Newham Junior Series Event 3.

GB U17 International, Benjamin Udrzal, took Newham Sword’s first trophy of the weekend when remaining undefeated throughout the day, before beating Milo Davidson of Cambridge Swords in the final of the U16 Boys.

GB U17 Internationals, Teagan Williams-Stewart and Emilija Lukaite, took gold and silver respectively in the U16 Girls.

Khalam Contractor also took gold and silver respectively in the U10 Boys.

“These results are well deserved, given the amount of training that these fencers have done in preparation for this event”, said Club Manager, Linda Strachan. [Click for larger images]


Khalam Contractor Takes Silver at the U10 British Championships!

Rising fencing star, Khalam Contractor (aged 9), set a personal best at the weekend when taking a silver medal at the British U10 Championships.

Newham Swords fencer, Contractor, remained undefeated throughout the day before losing in the final 10-7. “This is a great result for Khalam and one place better than last year when he took bronze”, said Swords Head Coach, Pierre Harper.
“Khalam is an exceptionally talented young man who has a great future ahead of him”, added Swords Club Manager, Linda Strachan.
Contractor will now prepare for the forthcoming English Youth Championships, taking place next month.

Pierre Selected as Senior Foil Coach for 2017 Senior Europeans

Newham Swords are proud to announce that Head Coach, Pierre Harper, will accompany Kamal Minott to next month’s Senior European Championships.

Pierre has previously worked with the GB Cadet and Junior Foil Squads, and helped them take a team silver at the 2010 Cadet Europeans, a team bronze at the 2014 Junior Europeans and a team bronze at the 2017 Junior World Championships.

He will now get the chance to work with the GB Senior Men’s Foil Team made up of Olympians, Richard Kruse, James Davies, Marcus Mepstead and Newham Swords fencer, Kamal Minott.

“I am really looking forward to working with these guys, all of whom I have known for a very long time”, said Pierre.

GB U17 International, Teagan Williams-Stewart (aged 14) set a new career best when winning the British U16 Title at the British Youth Championships, held in Sheffield over the May 2017 Bank Holiday weekend.


This follows the bronze won at the Senior Invicta Open (in March) and her gold at the London Leon Paul Junior Series Tournament (in April),

Kamal Minott Makes Senior European Championships!!

Following his fantastic result achieved at last month’s Junior World Championships, and his 7th place at the Senior National Championships, Newham Swords fencer and Junior Commonwealth Gold Medallist, Kamal Minott, has now been selected to fence for GB at the Senior European Championships which take place in Georgia next month. He will join 2016 Olympians, Richard Kruse, James Davies and Marcus Mepstead.
