Newham fencer wins Bronze at national U10

Sophie Tsang won the Bronze medal at the U10 BYC (British Youth Championships) in Telford, Shropshire May 2015

She won all her fights in the first round, lost only two in the second round before winning her next two DEs. She then lost to the eventual winner in the semi finals.

“This is an outstanding result for Sophie given that she has never fenced in this tournament before. This just shows what a talent she is”, said Head Coach, Pierre Harper.

Newham U11 and U13 teams take LPJS Bronze medals

Newham Swords’ youngest fencers took medals at the LPJS Finchley Foil Team  event in April 15 when the U11 and U13 teams took home bronze medals

For Alek, Omar, Jamiel, Keir and Tom, this event gave them their first ever medal in a fencing competition!

“We are very proud of what the teams achieved at the LPJS Finchley Foil Team Event, particularly those who had never competed before in a fencing competition. We look foward to holding the next LPJS Team event at SportsDock in November” said Swords Team Manager, Linda Strachan.

Newham success at BYC Regional qualifier

Newham Swords won six of the eight categories at the Eastern Region BYC Qualifier, which took place in March.

In the U18 Boys Age Group, GB Internationals, Kamal Minott and Ciaran Archer took gold and bronze respectively, whilst fellow GB International, James Page, won the U16 Boys.

In the U16 Girls Category, GB U17 International, Rachel Shaw, took gold whilst Emilija Lukaite and Tegan Williams took gold and bronze respectively in the U14 Girls.

England U15 International, Benjamin Udrzal took gold in the U14 Boys Age Group whilst Jacob Haynes won the U12 Boys.

“To take a total of six golds and two bronzes in one weekend is an outstanding result for our Club”, said Head Coach, Pierre  Harper. “We now look forward to working with them all at the BYC finals in May”.
